Therapy Workshops and Speaking Engagement

Sometimes, you just want to sit back and take in all of the information at once.

You’re looking for a broad overview of all the things you know you don’t know… Outside of a traditional therapeutic relationship.

Sometimes, you just need a workshop.

Whether you’re a conference regular or haven’t attended a workshop since your school days, therapy workshops at It Takes Two Center for Couples can meet you where you are.

Feel free to share your personal experiences… Or not.
Take pages of notes… Or don’t.

It’s up to you!

Gottman educational workshops for any experience level.

Gottman Marriage Workshop Official Badge

Rather than therapeutic sessions where we dive directly into the particular challenges you’re facing, educational workshops at It Takes Two Center for Couples cover broadly some of the most common and effective principles for successful relationships—partnerships, marriages, child rearing, and caregiving.

Along with the presentation, these workshops are packed full of activities and role-plays for you and your partner.

And you won’t have to share a thing, if you don’t want to!  You can interact with others in the group, or keep to yourself and take it all in—whatever matches your comfort level.

Speaking Engagements for Groups

I am available to present workshop topics for groups like school districts, clinics, community health centers, and more.

If you’re interested in booking a speaking engagement, please get in touch!

Frequently Asked Questions About Gottman Method Couples Therapy Workshops

What are the benefits of participating in a Gottman Method Couples Therapy Workshop?
Gottman Method workshops provide structure, motivation, and accountability to your couples therapy journey. The workshop format encourages active involvement and a support group of sorts as you work through targeted, highly-relevant material on a schedule, alongside other couples doing the same thing.

For some, workshops feel like a lower-pressure environment than one-on-one couples therapy. While Gottman Method couples therapy workshops aren’t substitutes for individualized therapy, they can be a great place to start—and might wind up being all you need!

Will we have to share our personal problems with the other workshop participants?
Absolutely not! There’s no “group share” portion of Gottman Method couples therapy workshops—pinky swear. The exercises and activities included in the workshops are designed to be completed privately, between you and your partner only.

Do both partners have to be there, or can I come alone?
Since workshops incorporate couples-only exercises, both partners must be in attendance to participate.

Is the reading required? My partner isn’t a reader.
All Gottman Method couples therapy workshops are full of really valuable information, and I encourage both partners to dive into the reading material. With that said, though, you can still get a lot out of the activities without reading the books and other guides, since much of the content will be summarized.

Should we do the exercises at home or save them for the workshop?
Pace yourselves! All workshops provide guidance on when and how to complete the included activities and exercises. Some will even be modeled for you to maximize the value you get from them. There will be a mix of in-class and at-home completion recommended.

Are the workshops LGBTQIA friendly?
Yes! All Gottman Method couples therapy workshops are affirming and appropriate for LGBTQIA+ couples.

What if we aren’t married yet? Can we still come?
All couples in a committed partnership are welcome to enroll in Gottman Method couples therapy workshops—whether married or not. The workshops can be useful as premarital preparation, as well.

Will we need to speak or share publicly?
Not at all! All workshops included presentation-style portions where couples are part of a listening audience, as well as activities to be completed in private. There is never any required sharing, and you’ll never be put on the spot. Participate as much or as little as you’re comfortable.

What kind of issues are most appropriate for these workshops?
Gottman Method couples therapy workshops are most appropriate for couples who fall into two general categories: repair and enhancement. This means that you can either participate when things are going great and you’d just like some extra food for thought (enhancement) or when you’re struggling in your relationship and are actively looking to address your challenges (repair).

These workshops are not appropriate for couples who are struggling with active addiction (not in recovery), severe/untreated mental health challenges, or domestic violence.

I have more questions. Can I get in touch?
You sure can! Whether you’re interested in one of the Gottman Method couples therapy workshops or working with me in therapy directly, please feel free to reach out.
